DPPE is a natural PE containing 16:0 fatty acids at the sn-1 and sn-2 positions. It belongs to a class of phospholipids and is the most abundant lipid in the inner leaves of the plasma membrane. The interaction between 1,2-DPPE and cholesterol forms a condensed lipid monolayer, where the head end groups of 1,2-DPPE have tight hydrogen bonds, forming a more fluid membrane that may facilitate transport and signal transduction across the bilayer.
